Are you in an abusive relationship?
Are you feeling needy for a man?
Are you having an affair with a married man?
Are you forgetting what it means to have great self esteem?
If any of the above are true for you, I encourage you to watch a newly released (on DVD), endearing movie, "Waitress."
Now, this delightful film may not win, Best Picture of the Year, and it may not make a billion dollars, but it has a fabulous message... a message I wish all women could hear!
I won't tell you too much about the movie because I am hoping you will all see it but let me just say it is about...
Making mistakes and moving beyond them.
Discovering your inner strength.
Friendship.
Making good choices.
Discovering your inner beauty.
Decisions and opportunities.
What is really important in life.
This romantic comedy demonstrates what it means to be a strong woman. It portrays a woman who uses her gifts and talents and abilities to brighten the world. Who finds strength and light inside herself. Who doesn't need a man to save her, support her, or make life worth living.
I'm always surprisingly refreshed by the rare movie that doesn't objectify women, that doesn't spread the myth woman are here for the pleasure of men, and that doesn't teach women they are their bodies.
Hooray for, "Waitress."
Kudos to Adrienne Shelly!*
*Adrienne Shelly was tragically murdered last year during the making of this film.

Good Sunday morning to you, Jennifer !
(and yes, it would be fun to be next-door neighbors :)
I'll go see it - I think the movie 'Waitress' is a perfect choice for the holidays !
THANK YOU.
jennifer,
i'll check out "waitress" for sure! (i'm somewhat of a movie conoisseur, if that's how you spell it). my first time visiting you blog and i must say, it is designed wonderfully; it gives off a cool "new vintage" feel. i also like to discuss relationships and love on my blog www.maleadvicecolumn.com, and i hope we stay in touch on the blogosphere!
Hi Jennifer,
I want to see this movie, sounds like a good movie.
But...there is a flipside to things....hope you don't mind me raising the flipside here, I say this because this blog is aimed at giving women advice about men.
So what I am saying below is a bit out of scope, but here it is, anyway.
(And what I am saying below does not mean I am anti-women.)
Here is a situation that happens often in this world.
I have highlighted the ESSENCE of it through words:
______
Guy and girl meet.
The guy says...'I have many aspects to my personality....'
The girl says to the guy...'the other aspects of your personality...I am not interested in them currently, because right now I want to experience your dark side.'
3 months later their relationship runs into trouble....and the guy says....'but...I have other aspects to my personality...'
And the girl says to the guy....'the other aspects of your personality don't matter because you are a brutal bastard'.
And then she throws him out of her life.
Now...I'm like o_O wha...?
Puzzling! LOL.
regards,
Vikram
Jennifer,
I am not sure if I said it before or not. But I sincerely think that you should make and publish a book with all your posts. It would not be a "feminist" book because that is a) not the aim of your blog and b) I am convinced that men would read such a book also.
Whilst I am writing this comment, I am glancing at the same time on the "Frequently Asked Questions".
And the subjects appearing there are a 360 degree thing.
During the year, I have looked at your posts and visited many times. And, honestly, from time to time I had to ask myself if I do the right thing so that I don't fall in the category of jerks.
From my heart I send you the best season greetings.
Peter
You mean women weren't put on earth just for the pleasure of men? Well, I'll be.
PS Just kidding.
Jennifer
Happy New Year
Rocketman
You have a point yes they are - also women are here to be loved, respected, honoured and appreciated.
Happy New Year 2008 to you Jennifer !
Hi Gale,
It is nice to have you here. I am going to go check out your blog for sure! :-)
And, thanks for your kind words about my site. I am not much of a techie type of gal so it has been a lot of work for me to learn all the code and stuff! (smile)
Happy New Year Gale,
Jennifer
Hi Vikram... :-)
You bring up a good point.. for sure!
When a couple first meets they are often on their "best behavior." :-)
We present the image we want to portray but over time, we move into more of our true selves, or rather the fullness of who we are emerges. As you put it, more of their personality comes forth.
And, pretty much always, there are sides of us that are not quite so lovely as that first image we wish to show the world.
I think it is important for couples to realize that we are not perfect, that we have "flaws" so to speak... being human and all. (smile)
On the one hand it is healthy to accept another, imperfections and all, on the other hand, there are healthy boundaries that need to be in place to maintain emotional and physical healthy and well being.
This is why I think it is important for many couples to take things slowly, and develop the relationship over time.
Too often, a couple finds that instant attraction so powerful that they overlook what may be problematic.
In sum, IMO, there needs to be a balance... accepting imperfections in ourselves and our partner, AND knowing what is healthy for a happy and fulfilling relationship!
:-)
Thanks Vikram for your always insightful thoughts!
Jen
Hi Peter...
Ohhh you are so kind and encouraging. Your support means so much to me!
Actually, I have a book all written and since I find the whole publishing thing difficult decided to just create a blog based on the topics in my book.
In my book, I have 101 ways to identify a "jerk." I've hit about fifty so far on my blog... so I have enough material for another year or so... (smile)
I hope you are well Peter. I've been very behind on my blogs... but I have a new project which I will share online soon!
Big hugs and a happy new year to you my dear friend!
Jen
Hey Rocketman...
Nice to have you here! :-)
Yeah, I'm just trying to get the word out that women can actually contribute to the world.. (smile)!
Warmest wishes to you!
Jennifer
Hi JJ...
I'm sorry I have been so absent lately!
My Happy New Year wish for you is quite late... still, the year has just begun so I can still send you a nice wish for the next 350 days! :-)
Hugs to you,
JJ
