As a mental health therapist, specializing in issues of abuse, much of my work has been with survivors of abuse including sexual assault and domestic violence. In addition, I have worked with many, many abusive men, and children from abusive homes.
Today, as many bloggers share their thoughts on abuse I want to add my voice!
There is no excuse for abuse. None!
We live in a world that, for much of history has largely dismissed and ignored abuse, justifying and rationalizing it away.
We must no longer pretend abuse doesn't happen, and we can no longer sit idly by while children, women, and even men are abused.
If you are in an abusive relationship... you know it. Even if you are denying it and finding excuses for the abuse, listen to your heart and remember that no human being deserves to be abused. No one. There is no excuse.
Abuse will escalate...
Please get help. You can call the abuse hot line and find a local shelter or counselor who can help you be safe!

If you are an abusive partner, or are abusing children, you also know it.
You may not want to admit it but you know, inside that you are abusive. You may justify it, deny it, claim that it will never happen again, promise everyone, even yourself you are done, but you know inside that it will continue.
You need to get help. Get into a good program to help you learn how to manage your anger, understand what it means to have a healthy relationship, and how to treat your partner respectfully and appropriately.
If you are a parent abusing children, or a parent whose spouse abuses children, GET HELP!
PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN!
