I'm not sure what guys are thinking when they whistle, hoot and holler, and revert to some sort of instinctual animal mating call. I really don't.
I mean, I get that in our evolutionary past males needed to get a female's attention so as to draw attention to himself and let a female know he wanted to mate with her.
In fact just last night I watched the male ostrich mating dance which was quite amazing actually.
But today, as human beings I'm thinking men should move beyond this obvious, rather obnoxious, and extremely disrespectful behavior.
There may be women who enjoy the cat calls, and the knowledge that a man wants to use their bodies for his purposes and pleasure and is signaling that he wants their attention.
But, the truth is, this behavior is hardly complimentary. Mating calls are not so much about a particular female as they are about male animals hoping to share their DNA with some (read, any), available female.
Regardless, whether a guy wants a woman's attention, in this day and age we have moved beyond our primitive instincts and techniques to a place where women are no longer animals to be used.
Mating calls in the human are archaic and degrading.
Guys that engage in this behavior have yet to move to a place where they respect women as valuable human beings. For some reason these guys hold to the idea that getting a woman's attention through mating calls will give them some sort of advantage in the world of mating.

I just came to your site first time. This post is great...I totally agree.
I already have a great man though, so won't be sticking around much. I just wanted to tell you to keep up the great work. There is a definite need for your site.
I don't think that it's proper to cat call a lady but why is it that sometimes when even jerks are polite it's ok for that lady to give them their asses to kiss and be ignored. Cavemen didn't have this problem .. see a woman that you wanted club her over the head .. of course thats domestic violence now .. but you get the picture. I think that getting the attention of any said female is up to the pursuer and who can say what tactic and ploy he should use .. Me myself I wait in the wings and hope they speak to me ...

It is not OK for guys to be rude, OR for women to be rude! Not at all! I don't give a free pass to rude or harmful behavior for anyone!
In this day and age, cat calls are inappropriate... guys can use various tactics but being rude, inconsiderate, disrespectful, is just plain inappropriate and rude!
The cat calling has long ago become a rude and objectionable behavior and guys who don't yet get this need to get into this century!
Waiting in the sidelines is quite polite!

I very much agree with this. Countless times I've been riding my bike through town and someones shouted out something at me while I'm going about my merry way. Not only am I sweaty, focused and 'in the zone', but I'm on a road. So it's totally dangerous and completely rude to yell out cat-calls while someones doing something or trying to get places.
It seems like these guys mostly do it from their cars. I guess thats where "real men" cat-call. Going 50mph so they don't look like complete tarts.
I totally agree with you-I feel like I can't even go outside any more without having to cover myself, and even then...
it's really bad in the area i live. the other day me and my friend were at the bus stop and these guys behind us kept tryna talk to us and when we didnt respond or turn around, they said "well then fuck you dumb bitches!"
whenever we walk down the street people honk their horns, holler , etc, and if we get angry they call us names, follow us , curse us out, etc.
the other day at the bus stop again me and my friend were just standing there and some drunk spanish guy kept tryna shove money in our face, saying that basically we're hookers, and if we moved away he'd follow us like a magnet. god it was so horrible.
It's especially hurtful if you ignore it, and then they get angry at you. it's like, what if you're deaf, or hard of hearing and you genuinely can't hear them? or what if you seriously just don't want to talk to a stranger? god!
